Personal Pandemic Stats (500 Days Later)

Back in April 2020 I wrote about how I built an automated LCD matrix counter that shows how many days since I started working from home.

Who would have thought that 500 days later I would still be working from home? I certainly didn’t. I have been wearing a fitbit for over 3 years now in the hopes that I would become more active. I obviously got so fit I ran a marathon… in an alternate universe. What I did get though is a well kept log of how little exercise I had and how much sleep I missed every day. This was only exacerbated by the pandemic and me working from home. I live in New York city where the only thing more outrageous than the cost of rent is the small amount of space you get for it. I actually spent the first 100 days of the pandemic lockdown indoors. Only making it to the outside of our front door to see the sky just to go back inside for another couple of weeks. I wouldn’t necessarily say that I was worried about getting sick but I do have the tendency to hide indoors and sit in front of a computer as much as humanly possible and avoid human interactions as much as robotly possible 😂. This is probably why I was built for a career in software engineering. I love talking to computers more than humans.

Combine my propensity to be a hermit and a global pandemic lockdown; what you have is a sedentary lifestyle and borderline agoraphobia. It wasn’t really a surprise what my year of pandemic working from home looks like; a worrisome 766,955 steps, 567 floors, 348.27 miles, 802,917 calories. I won’t even mention the scolding I got from my primary care doctor after my physical early this year.
