Had to repair a broken usb power port on a DAC this morning. Turned it into an opportunity to teach my son how to strip a wire with pliers. After half an hour of work he was able to successfully strip a mm of insulator out of a foot of wire π

I constantly remind him that he needs to respect using tools otherwise it will bite him back. I also tell him that it is inevitable that he will get hurt by one of these tools no matter how careful he is with them. The amount of respect you have in using these tools will determine how big or small your accident would be.

The DAC only costs 10 bucks. So buying a new one would have been cheaper than me spending half an hour working on it. But teaching him the lesson of being mindful of a searing hot soldering iron on the table next to you while being exasperated at stripping a tiny wire is priceless π€
