Ever since I started working from home at the start of the pandemic of 2020 I decided to learn a new (well re-learn) a skill. I chose to take up competitive fighting games again. I don’t think I can be as good as I used to be back when I was younger and much more obsessive compulsive about everything. On the flip side, I’m now at the age where I can actually enjoy playing (even when losing a lot) without having to take notes after every single match.
I’ve been playing Tekken since it came out in late 90s when Tekken 3 came out. Honestly I was more of a Street Fighter player but there was something different about Tekken’s play style that has kept me coming back to it for almost 2 decades. During the pandemic I decided to once again don the gi and bust out my Hwoarang. This was not an easy road as I have not played any of the other Tekken installments since Tekken 3 back in the late 90s. I had a short stint with Tekken Tag Tournament 2 which was the first time I ever played with an online opponent. I couldn’t be bothered to learn new moves for my Hwoarang so my play time with that was obviously short lived. When Tekken 7 came out I decided to try it out.
Of course this wouldn’t be a mad computer scientist post if I didn’t end up having to build a custom portable handheld steam gaming device to play Tekken 7 using a Raspberry Pi
