Star Wars Squadrons in VR

Ever since I played Wing Commander back in the 90s I have always been fascinated by how we can represent a 3D world mechanism in a 2D screen. Back in high school I remember coding in C++ a first person pilot view game that let me blast away square asteroids. It was basically the Wing Commander version of Asteroids. It took me months to write that game and I remember the toughest part was building an accurate radar that mapped the asteroids yo u don’t see in front of you. I think I never got that thing to work consistently 😂.

With our newly built gaming PC and Oculus Quest we started playing Star Wars Squadrons in VR. It is light years away from what Wing Commander was 25 years ago. It’s also funny how my 13 yo thinks that I am just joking when I describe how flight simulation games used to be. Amazing how immersive the game is when you play it in VR. All this looking around the cockpit is giving me neck cramps though! 🤣
