What good is a programmable lamp if you don’t have a cool way to control it? So I built one. Even made it work for the tv and cable box. I also put a “manual” switch on the lamp itself to make it look more… uhmm… normal.
I used a Particle Photon as the brains of the remote. I then added an 16×2 LCD controlled over I2C as the display. I have to admit it took a bit of trial and error to get the correct I2C address and driver to get this to work on the photon. I layed out a D-pad and 4 extra button on the PCB and just wired them up to all the photon digital and even the analog pins. Even added a switch for the LCD backlight to save on battery. The entire contraption is then glued on top of a small square orange 5V battery I got from Amazon. It was like 5 bucks because no one really wants an orange square as a battery pack 🤣.
