Nuff said. Good work is not a function of longer working hours. It’s actually influenced by the right amount of working hours. The challenge of having to focus all your energy to a limited amount of time is the real secret of efficiency.
If you are constantly working more hours than expected and feel that you are doing this because you don’t have a choice. Please take a step back and try to reassess your life priorities. Please ask yourselves, is it really worth the time I could be spending to be a better person? Most people who love what they do will definitely say yes. This is because this is who they are. This is what completes them. In the simplest sense, this is what makes them happy. I salute these creatures of hard work, but at the same time I would like to pose a challenge to them:
“How much can you actually accomplish today without going beyond a certain time limit?”
As the architect of the matrix once said to multiple instances of neo; “The problem is choice”. The urge to stay and finish this one last thing is so great that it compels you to do so. Fight this urge by reminding yourself that you have a choice. If you chose to stay and work, I hope it is because you wanted to do so and because it makes you happy.
My life lesson for today is to always think twice before spending that extra minute at work. Does it really count? Would your child approve of you spending that extra minute at work rather than at home with them playing?
“Many of the things you can count, don’t count. Many of the things you can’t count, really count” – Albert Einstein
